Family Dynamics, #34 Original air date: January 19, 2004 The
scoop: Andy breaks his promise to Delia; Madison helps Ephram deal with his feelings; the Abbott's are in the midst of
a family crisis.
What's Up With Mr. & Mrs. Abbott: Amy's parents are frantic with worry about where Amy
could be or what she may have done. They've got the FBI at their house getting information when Edna walks in. Caught off
guard by all the commotion, Edna tells them Amy is safe at her house and has been there all night. Harold and Rose are furious
that she didn't call and tell them. Edna tells them that Amy wants them to come over so they can all talk. When they arrive
Amy apologizes for her behavior but tells them how much they embarrassed her at Thanksgiving dinner in front of Tommy. Harold
softens up to her and suggests they all go home to work it out. Rose surprises everybody by condemning that idea right away.
She tells Amy that with her unacceptable behavior she's the one who's the embarrassment. She tells Amy that she needs to make
a decision: she can come home with them and live by their rules, which means no car, no phone and no seeing Tommy or she can
stay with Edna. With that she and Harold, who looks unsure, walk out. The next night Harold angrily tells Rose that she did
the wrong thing and he's going to get Amy. Rose stands up and tells Harold that he's always put Amy on a pedestal, neglecting
the rest of the family. She insists that what Amy needs is discipline and tells him that if he doesn't stand by her their
marriage is going to fail.
What's Up With Amy: Living with her grandma, Amy's finally getting the freedom she's
been craving. Edna allows her to see Tommy and lets her use the car whenever she wants. Unfortunately, neither Edna nor Irv,
although they both love Amy, care to have a teenager dominating their home. Edna's surprised that Amy still won't go home
and decides to call the family Reverend for help. The entire Abbott family meet with the Reverend at Edna's house to listen
to each other's feelings and respond. Rose begins by telling Amy that they love her but she's not an adult and that she has
to deal with the repercussions of her actions if she wants to come home. Amy responds by claiming that they don't love who
she is now but who she used to be. She tells them that she'll abide by giving up her car and her phone but that she still
wants to see Tommy. Harold steps in and tells her that they're not budging, he's standing by Rose and if Amy wants to come
home she lives by their rules. Amy doesn't say anything and doesn't move as they leave the house. Meanwhile, Amy's enjoying
the time she's able to spend with Tommy hassle-free. Edna realizes she needs to lay down some laws, so when Amy wants to go
out one night, Edna says she can't go out on school nights anymore and she has to be home by midnight on weekends, telling
her that rules exist everywhere. Amy asks if she can still see Tommy and when Edna says yes Amy calmly walks to her room,
apparently agreeing with the regulations Edna has set.
What's Up With Andy: Delia's furious that Andy's broken
his promise to her about not dating Linda Abbott. Andy feels horrible for upsetting Delia but he's had a change of heart and
realizes he never should have promised that to begin with. He decides to take Delia away overnight so they can mend their
relationship. During their time together Delia tells Andy that she's afraid if she likes Linda that her mom will know and
be mad at her. Andy explains to her that if you keep all the love you had for somebody who's not with you anymore all bottled
up, then there's no point to having the love in the first place. With that Delia gives him a smile and hug. After the weekend
Andy asks Linda out on their first official date.
What's Up With Ephram: Ephram and Madison grasp at every chance
they can have alone together. When Andy and Delia go away overnight Madison's expecting Ephram to be in a better mood. She
gets him to admit that Delia isn't the only one having a hard time dealing with Andy's decision to start dating. It's hard
for him to think about Andy with somebody other than Ehpram's mom. Madison suggests that he tell Andy how he feels and that
she'll be there for him. Having Madison to talk to and comfort him helps Ephram to not only understand his feelings but to
express them. He's able to tell Andy that he feels weird about him dating Linda but that he'll get used to it and he supports
him.
