The Miracle of Everwood, #19 Original air date: April 21, 2003
The scoop: A prominent reporter from "New York Magazine" visits Everwood to do a story on Andy; Colin's
trying to keep up the façade that he's perfectly okay even though his increasingly violent personality keeps popping up.
What's
up with Andy: While Andy's playing down the interview, all of Everwood is excitedly anticipating the visit of renowned
journalist, Joel Horowitz. Andy takes Joel around Everwood and tells him about the various patients and situations he's run
into with the exception of his most well known case of Colin Hart. When an Everwood townie informs Joel about Colin he's amazed
that Andy neglected to tell him about it. When he asks Andy why he didn't tell him Andy gives him the journalistically boring
explanation of his own miracle being his renewed relationship with his children. Knowing that Joel will only write about what
readers find fascinating and out-of-the-ordinary, Andy cautions him about writing of Colin's "miracle" because he isn't far
enough along in his recovery to have reached miracle status. When all is said and done, it's no surprise to Andy when the
article that comes out paints a very different portrait of who the fabulous Dr. Brown really is.
What's up with
Ephram: After witnessing Colin's dramatic outburst in the gym teacher's office, Ephram grows increasingly concerned over
Colin's behavior. He accompanies Colin to the principal's office and is stunned when Colin receives nothing more than a slap
on the wrist. Ephram's the only one who can see that something's wrong with Colin and no matter how hard Colin tries to convince
him otherwise, Ephram doesn't buy it. He talks to his dad to see if there's anything either of them can do so that Colin gets
help before he really loses it but is let down when Andy tells him that even Colin's parents won't hear it. Ephram does his
best to keep his distance from Colin sensing that he could lose it at any time. His fears are confirmed when he runs into
Colin and Bright at the Pizza place.
What's up with Colin: Colin, perhaps more than anyone else, is in denial
about his health. He stops wearing his sling and begins playing vigorous games of basketball. When the gym teacher won't let
him play until he gets a doctor's note Colin freaks out and takes a baseball bat to his desk. More surprising than his outburst
is the principal's reaction, making the gym teacher apologize to Colin for provoking him by not letting him play. When Ephram
confronts Colin about his scary, out-of-control behavior, Colin brushes him off and claims he only wants to get Amy to think
Colin's still sick so Ephram can have her for himself. While at the Pizza place with Bright he sees Ephram and antagonizes
him until he talks. When Ephram doesn't budge Colin begins to hit and push him around. Bright, worried that he's going to
far, tries to stop him and Colin takes that as a betrayal. He proceeds to pound Bright's face several times before he snaps
out of it and runs off.
What's up with Amy: Amy's delighted when Joel Horowitz wants to interview her and Colin.
Perhaps it somehow enables her to look even farther beyond the reality of who Colin is. Even with Colin's outbursts, Amy stands
by him and believes that nothing is his fault. Even when Bright comes home with his face beat up Amy pleads with him to not
tell their dad that Colin was the reason. Who knows what it will take for Amy to see that the Colin she knew before still
hasn't come back.
