A Thanksgiving Tale, #11 Original air date: Nov. 25, 2002
The
scoop: In search of a kidney donor for one of his patients, Andy meets the town hermit; Delia wants a Thanksgiving dinner
that replicates the one her mother would have created and Ephram is determined to give that to her.
What's up with
Andy: One of Andy's patients, Marty, is in need of a kidney transplant but since he's disowned his only brother he refuses
to consider him an option. Nina tells Andy about Daniel, Marty's brother who, after he and his wife divorced, "went crazy"
and became a recluse deep in the woods of Everwood. Andy has Nina draw him a map of where Daniel's shack is located and he
sets out to find him. When he does, he finds an unshaven, burly old man who has no intention of helping his brother out. Afterward,
Andy talks to Marty's wife about where the hostility comes from and she tells him that she was once married to Daniel, who
was a brilliant workaholic who didn't spend much time at home. She subsequently fell in love with his brother, Marty, and
divorced Daniel. On Thanksgiving Day, Andy along with Nina and her son, are helping Ephram with the Thanksgiving dinner when
Daniel shows up asking Andy to help his sick bear. While Andy's with Daniel he talks to him about his relationship with his
brother. The next day, Daniel shows up at Andy's office and says he's decided to go through with the kidney donation.
What's
up with Delia: Thanksgiving was her mother's favorite holiday and Delia is having an especially difficult time because
of it. When the Browns, Nina and her son sit down to Thanksgiving dinner Delia angrily yells that it's nothing like her mother's
and it will never be the same. Nina goes to talk to her and tells Delia that she's right, it will never be the same and it's
okay that she's upset. Delia cries in Nina's arms. Luckily, she has a brother who loves her dearly and who does his best to
take the sting out of the holiday for her.
What's up with Ephram: Andy is planning on bringing home a take-out
Thanksgiving dinner so Ephram decides to do it himself. He takes Delia shopping for ingredients and they run into Amy, who
is impressed with what Ephram is doing and offers to help him. She goes over to the Brown's and in his room, Ephram shows
her the "Grateful Books" his mother used to do for Thanksgiving. The two talk about the difficult year they've had and before
you know it, they're kissing. Afterwards, Ephram's obviously elated and his good mood reflects to everyone. The day after
an emotional Thanksgiving, Ephram tries to cheer Delia up by starting a new family tradition. He buys a camcorder and videotapes
everybody telling what the best thing that happened to them this year was. When he gets to Andy, Andy looks into the camera
and says, "The best thing that happened to me this year was that I met my son." Ephram smiles, unable to hide his happiness.
Later, he heads over to Amy's house whose dad answers the door and tells Ephram that Amy went to Denver with her mother. Ephram
gives him a small package to give to her and asks Dr. Abbott to tell Amy that he made it himself.
What's up with
Amy: Amy seems to be rethinking her platonic feelings for Ephram as she was happy to share a kiss with him in his room.
But when Ephram knocks on her door the day after Thanksgiving, she hides in the other room as her dad tells Ephram she's not
home. When he leaves, Amy asks her dad if it's possible that she has feelings for both Colin and Ephram. He tells her yes,
but that she needs to respect Ephram's feelings and if she has no intention of following through with her emotions, then she
needs to let him go. She opens the present from Ephram that turns out to be CD. On it is a song which the two can obviously
both relate to.
What's up with Dr. Abbott: At his annual Thanksgiving physical, Harold finds out that his doctor
has found a "spot" on one of his tests and he'll have to go in for an MRI after the holiday. That night Harold dreams that
he's died and nobody except his family and Andy show up to his funeral. He decides to amend his ways by inviting his mother
and a bunch of Everwood citizens to Thanksgiving dinner at his house. He tries his best to bestow good cheer among all. Until
his doctor calls and tells him it there was an error, he's perfectly fine and doesn't need to come in for more tests. After
he hangs up the phone he kicks everyone out of his house and returns to his old, grumpy self.
