Is There A Doctor In The House?, #10
Original air date: Nov. 18, 2002

The scoop: Andy is in conflict over whether or not he should let Ephram go live with his grandparents (Jacob and Ruth) in New York; Delia and Ruth throw Edna a birthday party at the Brown's house and because of a snow storm the entire party gets snowed in overnight.

What's up with Andy: Andy is having a difficult time deciding whether or not he should let Ephram go back to New York with Jacob and Ruth. In the meantime, Jacob's acting as if the decision's already been made by planning for Ephram's departure. At Edna's birthday party Andy attempts to talk to Ephram about it but the two only accomplish making a scene by yelling at each other in front of all the guests. Later, Andy tells Nina that he's beginning to think that Ephram moving to New York may be the best thing for him. An irritated Nina tells him, in not so many words, that he's a father and he has to stop trying to be noble. Afterwards, Jacob confronts Andy, telling him that he's only half a person and that he doesn't know what he's doing with Ephram. Before Andy can respond with anything other than that he's doing a "damn good job with his kids", Delia comes out and tells him that Bright has fallen down. It turns out that Bright's appendix has burst but because of the snow storm there's no way to get him to the hospital. They manage to get him over to Andy's office and once there, Harold stays by Bright and comforts him while Jacob guides Andy in removing Bright's appendix. The experience seems to not only heal Bright, but also heals Andy and Jacob's relationship and respect for each other. Before returning to New York, Jacob tells Andy that he was wrong about him, that he's changed a lot since moving to Everwood and that Julia would have liked how he's changed.

What's up with Ephram: Ephram says he wants to move back to New York but he seems to want Andy to tell him not to go more than he actually wants to go. When he and Andy get into a shouting match at the party Ephram angrily asks Andy if he (Ephram) would be happier in Everwood. Andy tells him he thinks Ephram would be happier in New York and Ephram takes that as to mean Andy doesn't care about him. After Andy comes home from operating on Bright he tells Ephram how much he needs him and that he wants him to stay in Everwood. Ephram looks touched and happy to accept that.

What's up with Delia: Delia's determined to throw Edna a birthday party even though Edna has no desire to celebrate. She sets the whole thing up and plays the hostess. When Bright comes to the door for the party Delia looks up at him in awe with what may be the beginning of a crush. Delia was unaware that Ephram may be moving back to New York, until the fight between Ephram and Andy in the living room. She asks Ephram why he wants to leave and Ephram explains as best he can by using a sweater that's too small as an analogy (the sweater standing for Everwood). Delia understands what he means but tells him that Ephram is not too big and that Everwood fits him.

What's up with Amy: When her dad tells her and Bright that they're going to the Brown's for Edna's birthday party neither Amy nor Bright is happy about it. Bright's not happy because he's not getting along with his grandmother right now and Amy because she doesn't want to see Ephram. After witnessing Ephram's argument with his dad she's surprised to find out that Ephram may be leaving Everwood. She asks Ephram why he didn't tell her about it and he says that he didn't think she'd care. At any rate, the two have a talk and seem to make up. After the snowstorm, they meet up at the diner and Amy is thoroughly pleased when Ephram tells her that he's not going to New York after all.

End Notes: Bright has been on ill terms with Edna but the appendicitis incident has scared Edna into softening up on him and the two are able to mend their differences.
