Till Death Do Us Part, #8 Original air date: Nov. 4, 2002
The
scoop: Andy is having a difficult time facing what would have been his 20 year anniversary with his deceased wife; In
an emotional moment, Ephram kisses Amy.
What's up with Andy: One Sunday Andy decides to take Delia to church
and in doing so meets the Reverend Keys, who at the following Sunday's annual "Hope" church service will be choosing the person
in Everwood who best exemplifies "hope" in the community. The Reverend has also broken out in hives and he and his wife meet
with Andy to see if he can figure out what's causing them. The couple reveals to Andy that the only time the hives appear
is after they've been intimate. In addition, there seems to be a considerable amount of hostility between the couple. When
Mrs. Keys visits Andy alone one day, she tells him that she believes the Reverend's hives are caused because he's not attracted
to her recently improved appearance. Meanwhile, Andy is caught off guard when he receives a call from a travel agent about
a surprise anniversary trip to Florence that was set up by his wife, Julia, before she died. In addition to that, Andy had
been planning to have dinner with Ephram the night of his anniversary but Ephram is stuck on a class field trip and is unable
to make it to dinner. Andy decides to drown his sorrows at the local pub where he runs into Dr. Abbott, who is drowning his
own sorrows after his wife blows up at him for not attending a dance class with her. During their drinking, Andy figures out
that Reverend Key's hives are being caused by an allergic reaction he's having to an antibiotic that chickens are treated
with because Mrs. Keys has been on strict diet of only chicken. By the time Andy points this out to the couple it is too late;
they've already decided to get a divorce. Feeling discouraged and depressed Andy searches for solace at the church where he
prays for the Lord to give him back joy in his life. The Reverend Keys overhears his hope and consequently names Dr. Andrew
Brown Everwood's citizen of "hope".
What's up with Ephram: Ephram's class is on a field trip to a mining cave
where a storm prohibits the class from leaving. They are stuck hanging out at the cave for several hours until the highway
re-opens. When a couple of juvenile classmates call Amy's cell phone pretending to be Colin's nurse and telling her that he's
woken up, Ephram comes to Amy's defense in a big way. Afterwards, Ephram and Amy sit alone in a secluded part of the cave
and talk. He asks Amy if they will become strangers when, and if, Colin wakes up. Amy reassures Ephram that they will always
be there for each other and that she is extremely grateful that he came to Everwood. As they look in each other's eyes Ephram
leans in and kisses her. Amy quickly gets up commenting that they should be getting back.
What's up with Amy:
When the class is finally able to leave the mine, Amy makes it a point to not let Ephram sit next to her on the bus. Before
the bus moves out, Amy's dad calls her and tells her that Colin has woken up. The next day she goes to the hospital with presents
for Colin, who is still unable to talk. Colin looks at Amy as though he has no idea who she is and the nurse tells her that
he probably doesn't remember her and that he may need to "start from scratch". Amy leaves her bag of presents on the counter
and runs from the room into her dad's comforting arms. After church the next day when Ephram asks Amy if she's seen Colin
she ignores his question completely.
End Notes: It's seems as though Amy expected Colin to be just as he was
before, as if he was just waking up from a prolonged sleep. Ephram is probably wishing he could turn back time and take away
that kiss, it seems to have pushed Amy awayat least for the time being. Although Andy shrugs off his worry, Ephram shows a
considerable amount of concern for his dad with the coming of his parent's 20th anniversary.
