The Great Doctor Brown, #2
Original air date: Sept. 23, 2002

The scoop: As Andy sets out to amend his life and career, he unwittingly puts his job before his children; Ephram continues to struggle with hostility towards his father; Delia stands up to her strict teacher.

What's up with Andrew: The first night Andy attempts to sit down to dinner with Ephram and Delia, he's called out to make his first house call to Mrs. Dudley who needs him to examine her five children. The next night he takes Ephram and Delia out to the local Chinese/Italian restaurant for some quality dinnertime, but before their food comes out, Mrs. Dudley calls Andy for another house call. He gives Ephram money for dinner and a taxi home afterward and leaves. Andy diagnoses Mrs. Dudley's children with pneumonia and must get the medication for the children himself because Mrs. Dudley doesn't have a car. His chivalry delays his return home and Ephram is angrily waiting for him when he finally returns. The next day at the Fall Festival Andy sees and talks to his dead wife again (this time with most of Everwood watching). He asks her why she isn't in Everwood with him and she tells him, in not-so-clear terms, that he's not in Everwood for her but so that he can get to know "him". She disappears before he can get her to answer "who?"

What's up with Ephram: After the second time Andy had to leave during dinner, Ephram accuses his dad of being the same neglectful father he's always been. He tells Andy he feels like a wife and mother when he's forced to take care of his sister. After the Fall Festival, where Andy is caught by Ephram, Delia and most of Everwood talking to his dead wife, Ephram is more sympathetic than embarrassed. When Andy explains to Ephram that he needs his help to raise Delia, Ephram nods in agreement and makes them all dinner the next night. After being confronted by Bright to stay away from Amy, Ephram begins to suspect that the only reason Amy's interested in him is so his dad will help Colin, her boyfriend who remains in a coma. After Amy begs Ephram to ask his dad if he'd be willing to help Colin, he lies and tells her that he asked his dad but he refused. Amy breaks down crying and Ephram feels guilty that he lied.

What's up with Delia: Delia asks her teacher if she can move into the front row because she can't see the board. The teacher tells her that only boys are allowed to sit in the first rows. Delia's not satisfied with that answer. She also refuses to take her baseball cap off when the teacher tells her to. The next day after returning home from the Fall Festival, Delia gives Andy a note from her teacher that he has to go in to discuss Delia's behavior. At the meeting with her dad and her teacher, Delia is pleasantly surprised when Andy sticks up for her and agrees that the teacher's rule that only boys are allowed to sit up front is ridiculous. Delia is becoming closer to her father.

What's up with Dr. Harold Abbott: Dr. Abbott is having his weekly dinner-night-out with Amy, and when he sees Andy leave his kids in the restaurant he's certain that Andy's a despicable person. After dinner Ephram and Delia aren't able to get a cab so he and Amy drive them home. He's not happy when Amy asks him if she can meet Ephram at the Fall Festival the following afternoon because he doesn't want her hanging around with Andy's son. Harold's wife thinks he's being unreasonable when he complains that Andy is taking all of his patients and suggests that the real reason he's upset is that his mother has gone to work for Andy.

Ending thoughts: Andy's patients go back to Dr. Abbott after witnessing his conversation with his dead wife; we're not sure if Amy's only being friendly to Ephram so that his father will help Collin.
