The Burden of Truth, #31 Original air date: November 10, 2003
The scoop: Ephram joins Madison's band; the citizens
of Everwood are in frenzy over Phil the mechanic's psychic abilities; Amy slips deeper into depression; Linda reveals a huge
secret.
What's up with Ephram: Ephram's impressed when he sees Madison singing with her band. When she asks
what he thinks he says they're pretty good except that they need a better guitarist, sound and music. This upsets Madison
and she angrily leaves. The next day Ephram apologizes to her and offers to help the band out, since he knows a thing or two
about music. Madison is thoroughly impressed with his talent and the band is a hit when they play at a local club. After their
performance Ephram is about to ask Madison out when they're interrupted by the guitarist, Jake, who comes over and kisses
her passionately. Ephram doesn't hide the fact that he's angry and Madison tells him that he merely has a 16-year-old crush
on her. The next day Madison approaches Ephram and tells him that nothing can ever happen between them because he's too young
for her. Ephram's confidence is clearly growing when he disregards all of that, walks over to her and says that ever since
he kissed her that day at the DMV he's wanted to kiss her again, and that he's pretty sure she wants it too. He leans in and
gives her a long kiss, pulls away, says, "Thought so" and walks into the house. Madison is left stunned and staring after
him.
What's up with Andy: Andy diagnoses a young boy with the flu, but his mother insists they go to Denver
to test him for meningitis because Phil, the mechanic, told her that's what the boy has. Andy is positive the boy doesn't
have meningitis and is astonished when the tests come back positive for the sickness. Hence, Andy pays a visit to Phil and
asks how he is able to "see" such things. Phil tells him that he's clairaudial, meaning he hears words and phrases in his
head that turn out to be true. Andy asks Phil to tell him what he hears about Andy and Phil tells him that the kiss he's been
waiting for is coming, that he's going to break a promise, and to watch out for the file folder. Later, Linda, who's in the
process of moving into her new house, shows up at Andy's office to ask Edna if she can use her truck. After she leaves Edna
throws a file folder at Andy and berates him for not making a play for Linda. He tells Edna about his promise to Delia that
he'll never date Linda and Edna reminds him that he also promised to buy Delia a horse. Realizing that one of Phil's predictions
has already come true, Andy decides to help Linda with her move. Afterwards, the two of them sit down and talk. As Andy slowly
moves in to kiss her, Linda makes an excuse and hops off the couch. Andy asks Phil why the kiss didn't happen and Phil tells
him that most of the time people would be better off not knowing anything because they usually mess it up when they know.
Even though Andy's unsettled that Linda rebuffed his kiss, he approaches her the next day, while Ephram and Delia wait for
him in the car and tells her that he likes her and he thinks she likes him and that they should both do something about it.
When he gets back into the car he sees Delia glaring at him from the back seat.
What's up with Amy: Amy is
sitting in her car watching all of her fellow classmates going into Everwood High School. Instead of parking and going into
the school she drives off. Later that day she calls her dad from Wyoming to come and get her. When he arrives he begs Amy
to tell him what's wrong with her and how she's feeling. Amy doesn't or can't answer him. The next day Amy meets with her
Aunt Linda who attempts to teach Amy meditation in order to gain control over her feelings. Linda tells her to set a goal
as to what she wants to feel and Amy tells her that she wants to feel nothing. The meditation is slow going and Linda decides
that it may be easier for Amy with some Indian music on in the back round. When she's left alone in Linda's office Amy notices
the doctor's prescription pad and rips off several, stuffing them into her pocket.
What's up with Harold: Harold's
office is filled with patients who have been told by Phil the mechanic what various illnesses they have or they're going to
get. Harold goes to Phil's garage to tell him to stop freaking people out. While he's there Phil looks at him and says, "Somebody
close to you is sick". Harold's disconcerted by that but is distracted when he gets a call from a pharmacy telling him that
his daughter is trying to obtain a false prescription for anti-depression medication. That night he and his wife confront
Amy. Harold's at a loss and takes his frustration out on Amy through anger. He heatedly writes her out a valid prescription
for medication and walks away, leaving Amy looking upset and exasperated.
What's up with Linda: When Edna goes
over to Linda's to ask her why she doesn't get involved with Andy, Linda tells her it's because she has a disease. Thinking
it's nothing serious Edna blows it off; until Linda tells her that the disease is H.I.V. She's been living with it for the
past 3 years and she doesn't want to put that on Andy. Edna takes her daughter into her arms and tells her that she doesn't
have to be strong anymore and that she doesn't have to live with this by herself anymore.
