Blind Faith, #29
Original air date: October 20, 2003

The scoop: Ephram gets some help practicing for his driver's test; Amy rethinks her feelings about Ephram; Andy's friend & patient, Reverend Keyes, gets married; Harold tries to set Linda up with various acquaintances to ensure she'll never date Andy.

What's up with Andy: Reverend Keyes has been a patient of Andy's since he began to lose his eyesight. At this particular examination, the Reverend and his fiancé tell Andy that they want him to officiate their wedding in December. The Reverend is hopeful that his eyesight will hold out so that he'll be able to see his bride on their wedding day. As Andy examines him they realize that his eyesight will probably not make it to next week, let alone December. Therefore, the Reverend decides to get married that weekend. At his Sunday service he asks his congregation to pray that his eyesight will remain with him until the wedding. The congregation sets up prayer groups and takes it very seriously. Andy's concerned because of the disappointment everybody's going to feel if the Reverend's sight fails. He suggests that the Reverend have another optical procedure that may prolong his sight. Initially, the Reverend is against it because he wants to fight with only the help of prayer, but his bride wants him to try the operation. He does, and when the bandages come offhe's completely blind. Although, they are disappointedthe wedding takes place as scheduled.

What's up with Amy: Amy is actually excited when her parents present her with a brand new car for passing her driver's test. As she and Laynie are about to leave in her new car from school, Ephram walks over to congratulate her. She smiles as Ephram comments he's lucky he didn't pass his test because he gets to spend more time with Bright (who's been driving him around). That night Amy has plans with Laynie but when Laynie blows her off, Amy heads over to Ephram's to see if he'd like to go out with her. As the two of them are sitting in the diner talking, laughing and enjoying each other's company (which both of them admit they've missed) Amy's cell phone rings. She doesn't answer it telling Ephram that it's Laynie probably calling to apologize for blowing her off. When Ephram hears she had plans that fell through, he realizes that he was merely Amy's backup. He tells her he wants to be there for her but that he won't keep on being second choice and leaves. The next day Bright tells Amy that Ephram isn't going to wait around forever for her. Amy agrees with Bright that she has feelings for Ephram and she doesn't want to lose him. Bright tells her that Ephram's taking his driver's test and that she should go over there to support him, telling her that it will be a start and then the two of them will figure out the rest of their relationship. She takes Bright's advice and heads out to the Motor Vehicle Department.

What's up with Ephram:
Ephram's bummed after he fails his first driver's test due to being unable to parallel park. Madison graciously offers to show him how and he takes her up on it. The two of them spend some time in her car practicing and talking. When it comes time for Ephram to retake his test, Madison is there with him to lend him support. When the DMV tester tells Ephram the outcome of his test, Madison is waiting to hear the result. He waves the slip stating he's passed and runs over to her, and picks her up as the two share a big bear hug. When he puts her down, he looks at Madison and kisses her on her lips. Madison kindly objects, saying she not only works for his dad but she's much older than him. Ephram apologizes and promises to never kiss her again. After that both of them share another friendly hug. Unbeknownst to Ephram, Amy has arrived at the DMV and witnesses the whole thing and decides to leave before Ephram sees her. At the Reverend's wedding reception, Amy asks Ephram to dance with her so that they can talk and she can apologize. She tells Ephram that he deserves somebody better than her, somebody more like himself. She asks Ephram to promise her that he won't let their relationship come between him and somebody else. As Ephram glances over at Madison who's dancing with Delia he says, "I promise".
