East Meets West, #27 Original air date: October 6, 2003
The scoop: Harold's sister, Linda, begins her unconventional practice in Harold's office; Bright is unhappy
when one of his friends asks Amy out; Andy hires a babysitter for Delia who gets on Ephram's nerves.
What's up with
Ephram: Ephram is getting rather tired of always having to baby-sit Delia so Andy hires a baby-sitter, Madison. Ephram's
caught off guard, but glad that he will now be able to go out and get the latest edition of his favorite comic book. Right
off the bat, Madison puts a bad taste in Ephram's mouth by telling him that her 12-year old little brother is also into comic
books. She also tells him to call her if he's going to be late getting home. Later, Ephram walks into the kitchen to find
that Madison has thrown out his leftover pizza he was saving for dinner. As she and Delia prepare dinner she tells Ephram
he needs to eat healthier food. Ephram explodes telling her that she's Delia's babysitter, not his. The next evening Ephram
flipps out again when Madison shuts off his video game, claiming it's not good for Delia and orders him to do his homework,
with that, Ephram takes it upon himself to fire her. Of course, Madison returns the following evening, waiting for Ephram
to give her the apology Andy has made him give to her. In addition to the arrival of Madison, Bright tells Ephram how annoyed
he is that his friend has asked Amy out for Friday night. He suggests that Ephram ask her out instead, so she won't go out
with the friend. Reminding Bright that Amy has repeatedly dissed him, Ephram refuses. On Friday, Delia excitedly tells Ephram
that Madison is taking them miniature golfing. Ephram isn't going to go until he sees how disappointed Delia is. To his horror,
while playing mini-golf he runs into Amy and her date.
What's up with Amy: When a friend of Bright's asks Amy
out for Friday night, she isn't thrilled, but decides to accept his offer when she sees how much Bright doesn't want her to
go out with him. He takes her mini-golfing on their date and when he attempts to put his arms around her in order to show
her how to hit the ball, she tells him she can do it and wriggles away from him, obviously put off. On Monday, Ephram approaches
her at her locker to see how her mini-golf experience was. In talking with Ephram, Amy's reminded that she forgot to write
her English paper, which is due that day. Coming, yet again, to her rescue, Ephram pulls out his paper and tells her to take
it and copy it over and that he'll re-write a new paper. Amy gratefully accepts his offer and gives him a big satisfying hug.
What's up with Andy: When Andy sees that Colin's dad is drowning his sorrows at the bar, he feels compelled
to do what he can to help him. Even though he's having dinner with Nina, discussing her divorce plans, he leaves her there
in order to drive Mr. Hart home. Nina visits Andy at his office the next day after a meeting in court to talk to him, but
Andy is busy on the phone and doesn't have time to talk. Determined to help Mr. Hart, he asks if he'd be willing to participate
in an experiment involving a pill that supposedly lessens the craving for alcohol in alcoholics. Mr. Hart tells Andy that
he has no desire to stop drinking and that he doesn't want to participate. Andy is so caught up with his own issues that he's
forgetting about Nina's difficulties. Nina stops over the Brown's and is shocked when Ephram offers her his condolences on
her divorce. She's appalled that Andy betrayed her confidence. Later that evening, Andy stops over Nina's to discuss Mr. Hart
and finds that Nina is furious with him as well as being hurt. She tells him he needs to wake up and stop living in the pastincluding
hanging onto Julia. When Andy returns home he blames Ephram for Nina's anger and the two of them begin hollering at each other,
until Madison comes downstairs and puts them both in their place. She tells them that they are so caught up with themselves
that they forget what Delia is going through. After severely reprimanding both of them, she leaves saying she'll see them
tomorrow with hopefully new attitudes.
What's up with the Abbotts: When Linda begins her medical practice, Harold
is disgusted to find that she practices Chinese healing and acupuncture. Harold doesn't believe in it and let's his feelings
be known. He is thrilled when he receives the coveted honor of "King Rut back" with his men's club and labors over his speech
until his neck is so stiff he can't move. He agrees to let Linda use her methods to try to cure him, making a deal that if
she cures him she can stay in his office and if not, she has to go. Not only does Linda's method cure his stiff neck but also
it relaxed him to the point of becoming a nostalgic softie during his speech. It looks like Harold is stuck with Linda and
her practice.
What's up with Delia: Delia absolutely adores Madison and when Ephram and Andy agree that she
should be fired after her scolding them, Delia intervenes and very seriously tells them that Madison is hers and if they fire
her, Delia will never talk to either of them again. Her somber demeanor convinces them, and Madison is here to stay.
