My Brother's Keeper, #26 Original air date: September 29,
2003
The scoop: Harold's sister returns home to Everwood from a 6-year world traveling medical
excursion; Bright and Ephram become concerned about Amy's behavior; Andy deals with a controversial situation regarding young
teens and sex.
What's up with Ephram: When Bright approaches Ephram about keeping an eye on Amy and then reporting
back to him about what she's up to, Ephram initially refuses, not wanting to get involved. But when Amy and Laynie tell him
they're going to a frat party at Everwood College, he asks them if he can tag along while they get ready. He becomes concerned
when he sees that their definition of "getting ready" means getting Amy used to the strong taste of alcohol and not making
disgusted faces while drinking. Later at home, Ephram debates with himself as to whether he should do something and risk upsetting
Amy or if he should just let it go. He discreetly asks Andy his advise and is told that he has a responsibility to protect
somebody if they're endangering themselves or others. With that Ephram rushes over to get Bright and the two of them head
over to the frat party that Amy's attending with Laynie.
What's up with Amy: While she's at the party, talking
to guys and holding a drink, Amy's caught off guard when Bright shows up with Ephram and demands that she leave with him right
now. Bright asks her what she thinks Colin would think if he saw her "drinking and acting like a slut". She retaliates by
telling Bright that it's his fault Colin's dead because of the car accident. Bright throws it right back at her by saying
that if she hadn't hid how sick Colin was getting he would still be alive. Hearing their arguing, a big college guy walks
over to defend Amy and get Bright to leave her alone. Ephram diffuses what may have turned into an even uglier situation by
telling the guy that Amy's only 15, hence getting Amy and Laynie to leave the party. The next day Amy and Laynie leave school
to go out to lunch and cut yet another class.
What's up with Bright: Bright is grateful for Ephram's help in
watching out for Amy. He's gaining a genuine respect and liking for him.
What's up with Andy: Nina asks Andy
to help her friend whose 13-year-old son was caught stealing condoms. Andy reluctantly agrees to meet with the boy, Travis.
In their meeting Travis reveals to Andy that he along with several other kids had sex in the woods one day. Andy talks to
Travis' mom and they decide to go to the parents of the children involved and clue them in on the situation so the kids can
get examined and blood tested. The parents are defensive and angry and refuse to believe the story. After Travis gets beat
up for telling, Andy again approaches the parents and this time the parents agree to get their kids blood tested as long as
the story never gets out to anyone. While talking with Nina about the situation, Andy is surprised to find that she understands
and even agrees with the parents for wanting to keep their secret in such a small town. Finally, to Andy's shock, Nina discloses
to Andy the fact that Carl, her husband, left her for a man he was having an affair with.
What's up with the Abbotts:
Harold is full of hostility for his sister, Linda, when she returns home to Everwood; angry that she was gone for 6 years
and that she wasn't there for him when he needed her. Meanwhile, Edna is off living vicariously through her world-traveling
daughter and hurts Irv's feelings by downplaying her role as a family woman. When Linda announces she's back for good, Edna
is caught off guard but sees how important family is. She talks to Harold and apologizes for the sibling rivalry she feels
she created when she left him and Linda for 3 years when they were young. Despite the rifts, Linda has made it clear that
she is back to stay and plans on joining in on Harold's family practice however unhappy he may be with those plans.
