Unhappy Holidays, #33 Original air date: November 24, 2003
The scoop: Andy finds out about Ephram and Madison; Amy invites Tommy over for Thanksgiving
dinner; the holiday at both homes ends in disaster.
What's up with Ephram: Ephram takes Madison into Andy's
bedroom believing the two of them are alone. Ephram kids about how clueless Andy is and the two giggle and kiss. Little do
they know that Andy came home early to hide presents in his closet and he's the closet hearing every word and watching every
movement. They're both shocked when Andy jumps from the closet and demands to know what's going on. He forbids them from seeing
anymore of each other, outside of Madison's babysitting for Delia. Ephram is defiant and refuses to be intimidated by Andy
but Madison is unsettled and immediately agrees when Andy insists their relationship end. Ephram is furious and doesn't plan
on losing Madison because of Andy. The next day he asks Madison about why she's so ready to end their relationship. She's
scared and confused; Ephram asks her if she doesn't want to continue their relationship or if she feels she can't continue
their relationship, she says she doesn't want to and leaves. Ephram continues his battle with Andy at Thanksgiving dinner
after Madison, who had been planning on staying, decides she can't bear to be around Ephram anymore; now Andy has Delia furious
with him as well because she also cares deeply for Madison. Later, Ephram takes Delia over to Madison's and has her wait in
the car while he goes and talks to her. He convinces her that it doesn't matter what Andy thinks but she's still concerned
about other issues, such as their respective friends. He tells her that she's the only friend he has and the two end up kissing
again. Later that night, Ephram tells Andy that he's going to continue to see Madison whether he likes it or not and he's
caught off guard by Andy's response.
What's up with Andy: Andy's not only disturbed that his 16-year-old son
is having a relationship with his 20-year-old babysitter, but he's equally disturbed about the rift it's causing between himself
and Ephram. Meanwhile, a 16-year-old boy comes into his office to get his foot treated for a burn he acquired while practicing
for the "fire walk," which is a traditional rite of passage into manhood practiced by his Indian tribe. Andy discourages the
boy from going through with the fire walk since his foot is already burned and calls the boy's father. He meets with the dad
on the Indian reservation, which is also home of a casino. Andy hits it off with the dad, but the dad tells him his son will
go through with the fire walk just as he did and just as his father did before him, regardless of his burned foot. After his
Thanksgiving disaster Andy tries to drown his sorrows at Everwood's local bar and happens to run into Harold Abbott. Not wanting
to spend Thanksgiving at a bar Andy takes Harold to the casino. There he runs into the boy's dad again who tells him that
his son successfully completed the fire walk. He explains to Andy that he wanted to grab his son and stop him from going through
with it but that he had to let him otherwise he would have failed him as a father. Going through the fire walk doesn't necessarily
mean the boy has become a man but that the father is ready to let the boy become a man. With that, Andy goes home and tells
Ephram that he won't stop him from seeing Madison. He does, however, confront Madison and explain to her that Ephram is still
a boy and that she needs to be careful with his heart.
What's up with Amy: Amy's attitude is becoming more positive
since she met Tommy and she's happy he's coming over for Thanksgiving dinner. Unfortunately, Bright clues their dad into the
rumors surrounding Tommy and Harold is not happy. He makes a scene at dinner and even though Tommy has shown stellar manners,
he gets up and leaves. Amy gets up after him and a shouting match ensues between herself and Harold.
What's Up With
Harold: Harold's already on edge with the arrival of his mother-in-law who doesn't like him. He goes over the edge after
the argument with Amy and escapes to the casino with Andy. He gets caught up while there and winds up losing $7,000. When
he gets home his wife and mother-in-law ream him, but once the mother-in-law gets out of line, Rose puts a stop to it by praising
whom Harold is deep down. The next day they find out that Amy has escaped through her window. The police are called who tell
them that Tommy Callahan hasn't seen her since the disastrous Thanksgiving dinner and a missing child report is filed.
What's
up with Linda: While out looking for a Christmas tree Linda runs into Andy and Delia. She tells Andy that she understands
why he's been avoiding her and he tells her it's because she doesn't seem interested in him. She tells him she's very interested
and that she loved the roses and balloons. She begins to go on but is stopped when Andy takes her into his arms and kisses
her passionately. What they don't notice is Delia glaring angrily at them.
